Thoughts about evangelism, hell, the limits of...
So, to update you all, I’ve been spending every Wednesday on campus doing evangelism with students on Wayne State’s Campus. We’ve been doing different kinds of evangelism - anything from just sitting down with strangers to talk about Jesus to putting up interactive artistic displays that have relevant themes for students that ultimately lead towards communicating the gospel....
My struggle with blogging
So, on top of the fact that I have a hard time staying consistent with updating this blog like I would like to (twice a month is my ideal), I’m struggling with something new.
I just returned from Urbana 09, InterVarsity’s triennial missions conference. God moved incredibly, and I felt it too even as a staff.
One of the things that God has showed me is how much I try to stick out for...

Here is a link to a video that Mike made during the first day of living on Hazelwood… gives you a tour along with beautiful narration :)

You should check out his stuff - he has other pictures of the house and stuff that I don’t in addition to hearing his perspective all this stuff. Go get the dank!

Detroit preliminary visit
Hey yall
So this weekend Mike, Jon, and I will be piling into Mike’s civic to drive 5.5 hours out to Motor City for some investigation and some good peeps. I’m pretty excited! Looks like our plan is to catch up with Sones and meet the interns that he has been working with during his summer program with the CDC (Central Detroit Christian Community Development Corporation) and tell them...
Boom Batification
Some recent haps made me realize I need to inform you all about Boom Batification. This is what you get from hanging around Oberlin peeps for 4 years I suppose…
So I’m going to assume that we know what a fatty is at this point. From here, if you get a fatty fatty, it becomes a fatty boom batty… the first act of boom batification.
But this quite easily extends to cigs, which...
Guns in church... are you serious? →
I know there are plenty of Christians out there who advocate gun ownership, and while I disagree with them fervently, this is absolutely crossing the line! Micah 4:1-5 gives a pretty clear picture of ideal worship as it relates to this issue! The kind of example this shows to people who aren’t Christians is not grace and forgiveness, but suspicion and fear… totally unacceptable!...
Best article on introversion I've read →
And the last installment of my introversion posts (hopefully… for now) is this article called “Caring for your introvert.” I think probably my favorite part of it is that the author entertains the idea that introverts are oppressed. This might sound ludicrous to an extrovert, but as an introvert, I certainly feel oppressed in the extroverted world we live in. I can’t tell...
ONS
So I just got back from ONS (InterVarsity’s Orientation for New Staff). Following my last post, let’s just say that ONS is brutal for an introvert. Large numbers of new people in your face all the time, and combine that with the majority of IV staff being extroverted leaves an introvert like myself utterly exhausted and feeling quite alone.
However God did teach me some great things...
Introverts in the Church! →
I CANNOT EVEN TELL YOU HOW EXCITED I AM FOR THIS BOOK! I just stumbled upon it this morning and as an introvert feeling the crunch of being in an extroverted world with a predominately extroverted job (campus ministry), I often doubt myself and my calling to ministry. This book should be a huge encouragement for me.

Pray with your friends
So as you may know, Mike, Jon, Matt, and I will be living in an intentional community in Detroit this coming August.
One of the things I’m excited for is developing a communal spiritual life together. Matt is actually in Detroit now on a summer program, while Jon, Mike, and I are in the Burgh till August. So I thought we should get this spiritual thing going now instead of later - so the 3...

Off to Wisconsin
It’s been a good 6 months or so since I’ve been in Wisconsin, and I’ll be returning there next week for InterVarsity’s Orientation for New Staff Training. A whopping 10 days long of IV stuff, including some fund development one of the nights. I’m excited to get a break from FD, to meet some new people, and to learn some new ideas.
Sadly, I won’t be able to...

Chile Cornmeal-Crusted Tofu Po'Boy
Yes, as promised, a report on my first cooking adventure back home.
I’m working out of Veganomicon right now. The Po’Boys were my first dish, and dare I say, they turned out bangin! For those who don’t know…
(from urban dictionary)
Po’Boy - 1. A wonderful, tasty, sub sandwich consisting of various types of meat(s) and condiments
Naturally my Po’Boys came...

Inspiring words from a staunch atheist about the value of being bold about whatever you believe. This isn’t just for Christians to hear, this is for anyone to hear who has a message worth hearing. Get out there and tell some peeps!

how much should we focus on ourselves?
I had a really good church experience this Pentacost Sunday… Doug (one of the pastors at my church in Pittsburgh) talked about how Pentacost was all about Jesus being glorified through the disciples’ experience in Acts 2, and the ego-less-ness of Christianity hit me hard during his talk.
I have been thinking so much about self-improvement lately in many areas of my life, in order to...
