Pray with your friends

So as you may know, Mike, Jon, Matt, and I will be living in an intentional community in Detroit this coming August.

One of the things I’m excited for is developing a communal spiritual life together. Matt is actually in Detroit now on a summer program, while Jon, Mike, and I are in the Burgh till August. So I thought we should get this spiritual thing going now instead of later - so the 3 of us in Pittsburgh got together this afternoon to share about our lives and pray as God leads us.

And let me tell you, it was one of the most refreshing moments I’ve had in a loooooong time. I’m not kidding, it was incredible for me. I can’t wait till we do it again.

There is power in God’s community, and when deep bonds are formed with God in the center, it is a beautiful thing that I don’t think anything else can match (save maybe a truly God centered marriage?). I really felt today while we prayed how the Acts 2 community was so attractive and how the Lord added to their number daily… I pray that God will do the same thing through our group.

So, if you have some close friends and you don’t pray with them regularly, START! I mean it, it’s worth it. And take the lead, because it won’t happen on its own. It’ll take some getting used to, but when Jesus unites you all in spirit over time, there is power, power beyond any human convention or practice.
