Detroit Weekend Visit Recap
So, after Mike came out of the hammock like a butterfly emerging from his chrysalis, we got down to business :)
We met this really awesome dude, Pastor Mike Sewell, who owns 3 properties north and a little west of wayne state. Mike is from Jamaica, has been in  the city for 3.5 years, and has been really successful with ministry in his neighborhood and some of the development he’s doing in the community.
For example, he turned this abandoned building into this dank nightclub that is Christian and clean… and it’s not cheesy or anything, it has a really good party vibe and a killer sound system. He has visions for turning empty lots/vacant buildings that he owns into safe playgrounds, community gardens, a cafe, group homes, and a new building for the church along with possible places for people to start small businesses. With all of us, he really sees us as potential allies and partners in making these visions reality, as do we. He’s a lot of fun, smart, visionary, and is a good leader… and so this week the 5 of us will seriously be praying about moving into one of his rental properties near his church and his community. Please join us in praying for guidance about where we should live - there are 2 houses of his that we are particularly drawn to that we have to decide between.
Oh, and did I say 5? That’s right, our friend Tyson Lucas, will be joining us in Detroit next year as a part of our community. There’s so much more to say about this weekend, but I’m sure I’ll let you all in on it as time goes. As for now, let the preparations continue for this next chapter in our lives - to Him be the glory and praise!
